Reinhardt Captures the 2022 Women's Lacrosse Tournament Title

WALESKA, Ga. - A strong second quarter propelled No. 2 seed, Reinhardt, to a 13-9 victory and the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship on Saturday.

The tournament was held at Reinhardt in Waleska, Ga.

The first quarter was back-and-forth as No. 1 seed SCAD Savannah led 3-2 with 9:18 to go in the frame. But Reinhardt scored the final two goals of the quarter for a 4-3 lead. The Eagles outscored the Bees 4-0 in the second to open up an 8-3 halftime advantage.

Reinhardt took a 10-4 lead into the fourth. SCAD Savannah netted five fourth-quarter goals, but it was not enough as Reinhardt claimed the 13-9 victory and the tournament title.

Alyssa Klinger and Jillian Mello led the Eagles in scoring with 3 goals each. Morgan McGhee, Shelby O'Neil, and Anna-Marie Gazzo all had 2 goals each. Macy Fulton added one goal to help the Eagles over SCAD. Jessie Landers had a great game in goal to hold off the Bees' attack. Landers ended the game with 10 saves and was a leader on the defensive side. Mia Griswold had a solid game with 9 ground balls and Ashley Steele had 4 ground balls. Along with her 2 goals, Tournament MVP - Morgan McGhee -  would also have 3 assists and 8 ground balls.

By virtue of winning the tournament, Reinhardt receives an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament, which is set for May 4-7 in Saginaw, Mich. The tournament bracket will be released in the next few days and the Eagles will know who their opponent will be.  More info to come!
