Young Eagles Squad Place Four at Life University Open
Marietta, GA - Reinhardt Wrestling competed at the Life University Lucha Open on Saturday. This is an annual tournament for the Eagles as it brings in some of the best talent in NAIA college wrestling and gives the wrestlers an idea of where they stand before the season kicks into high gear over the next two months.
Coach Bedard's squad has many new faces added after having a veteran team of wrestlers for the past three to four years. Every dual or tournament is a chance for these new faces to show what they can do and make a name for themselves among the past talented wrestlers.
Reinhardt had a good showing with several wrestlers picking up multiple wins, and four were able to place. The tournament had two divisions. The top division was the Gold Division, and the next was the Silver Division.
Nate Bukovich earned a third-place finish in the Gold Division to lead the Eagles in the 174 weight class. His overall record was 4-1 in the tournament. Bukovich has shown that he is going to be one of the wrestlers that the team will rely on as the AAC and NAIA Tournaments come around. Also placing in the Gold Division was veteran Caleb Pruitt in the 285 weight class. Pruitt went 4-2 in his matches, earning a solid 5th-place finish.
Colton Bishop, Davis Dollar, and Jonathan Paramore were all able to pick up multiple wins in the Gold Division.
In the Silver Division, Brock Gunnels was crowned Champion at the 149 weight class, winning all five of his matches. This is Gunnels' first tournament where he placed and took the title. Bryson Putnam placed 8th overall in the 197 weight class, going 3-3 in his matches.
Carson Griffey, Bregan Berry, and Ely Raines were all able to pick up multiple wins in the silver division.
