Eagles Face Loss at AAC Road Game in North Carolina
Black Mountain, NC - In a challenging AAC road game at Montreat University, Reinhardt Men's Soccer faced off against the Montreat College Cavaliers midway through the 2025 season. The game resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Eagles, despite a strong defensive effort led by goalkeeper Andree Meza, who made 2 saves. The Eagles could not overcome the early lead taken by Montreat in the first half, despite getting 18 shots, 5 of which were on goal.
The match opened with Montreat's Ethan Grasso scoring an early goal at the five-minute mark in the first half, which ultimately became the game-winning goal. The half concluded with the Cavaliers leading 1-0. No goals were scored by Reinhardt throughout the match, facing a solid Montreat defense.
Adding to the tension of the game, the start was delayed by almost two hours due to lightning, setting a challenging pace for both teams upon resumption. The Cavaliers solidified their win with a second goal in the second half, finalizing the score at 2-0. Grasso netted the second goal for the Cavaliers.
Weyman Mebuya had three total shots on goal, with two being directly on target, which was a leading stat for the Eagles. Goalkeeper Meza ended the game with two saves, with four total shots on goal.
Looking forward, the Eagles are set to regroup and face their next challenge against another AAC opponent on Wednesday evening. Tennessee Wesleyan will be in town, bringing a very tough and talented group to face the Eagles. Reinhardt now holds a current record of 2-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in AAC play; however, they have the postponed game from last Wednesday that should go in the books as a win once the game is completed on October 25th. The game was suspended with just twenty-two minutes left because of a lightning storm in the area. The Eagles were leading 3-1 at the point the game was suspended.
