Spartanburg, SC - It is still very early in the fall season, but Reinhardt Men's Soccer found themselves where they needed a solid win after dropping the last two home games to #1 Dalton State and conference foe Milligan University. The Eagles were on the road for this midweek game with AAC newcomer, Spartanburg Methodist. Reinhardt scored two in the first half and then held on for their second AAC win of the season, beating the Pioneers, 2-1.
The match began aggressively with Reinhardt quickly establishing the lead. Nathan Booth opened the scoring at 6:24, with Luke McLaren providing the assist, setting the pace for the Eagles. By halftime, Reinhardt had fortified their position with a second goal, leading 2-0 against the Pioneers. McLaren was able to get the second goal for the Eagles after assisting on the first goal
The second half saw the Pioneers ramping up their efforts and managing to slip one past Eagles' goalie Andree Meza. Despite the opposition's increased pressure, Reinhardt's defense, helmed by Connor O'Brien, who was later named Man of the Match, held strong. The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 victory for the Eagles, with McLaren's earlier goal proving to be the game-winner.
Meza had a solid game in goal for the Eagles by allowing the single goal on five shots on target by the Pioneers. The Eagles continue their season with a record of 2-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the AAC.
Looking ahead, the Eagles are set to face the Bryan College Lions in Dayton, TN, on September 20, 2025. This is another important AAC game for Reinhardt, who wants to keep themselves in the upper half of the league. The AAC Tournament is still a little over a month away, but the team will need to keep the conference wins coming to be a participant.
