Waleska, GA - Eagles Lacrosse were riding a three-game winning streak into Friday night's game with Point University. The Eagles dropped slightly in their national rankings, but are still one of the top teams in the NAIA and will get to prove themselves once April rolls around. First, they have to finish out their schedule with a few tough opponents left.
Point's Lacrosse program is still developing so they were not coming into Waleska with the best record, however, this was a game where they could test themselves against one of the nation's best teams. Reinhardt would waste little time in getting the game in hand, but it was Point that would score first. Within the first minute, Point was able to put a goal on the board, but Reinhardt settled down and gained control of the game quickly. Tyler Wilkinson would answer right back with a goal of his own and it was one of 10 goals on the night. Wyatt Maddox would also score in the first quarter and this would be the only goals for the Eagles in the first quarter.
The second quarter is where things started heating up for the Eagles and all the big names got involved in the scoring. Titus Thind, Brady Hanak, Dillan Bousquet, and others got it going and rattled off 17 goals in the second quarter basically putting the game away. Point was able to score one more, but that would be it for the rest of the game. Several Eagles had big nights scoring and Cameron Cochran was the motor that kept the Eagles flying. Cochran would end up with 7 assists in the game and contributed to moving the ball around on almost every scoring play. The Eagles would go on to extend their narrow first-quarter lead to running away with the game at 19-2 going into the half.
The third and fourth quarters would see many different Eagles get time on the field and many goals were scored. The final score was 36-2 as the Eagles would get 17 in the second half. Wilkinson would lead the Eagles in scoring with 10 total. Titus Thind would finish with 7, Dillan Bousquet would have 6, and Brady Hanak would have 5 to help the Eagles. There were several others that received significant time on the field and helped in the scoring and assists. Liam Wright and Brenden Pecora split time in goal and both had great games.
The Eagles will be back in action next Friday night for the second home game of the season. This will be an extremely competitive game with Cumberlands (KY) as they are a highly ranked team as well. It will definitely have a playoff feeling to the game. The game will be at 7 pm at Ken White Field on Friday, April 1st.
