Eagles Men's Golf has a Good Showing at NAIA Nationals
SILVIS, Ill. - This was the 70th year of the NAIA Men's Golf Championship and the Reinhardt Eagles had a good showing. The Eagles were coming off their AAC Championship from a couple of weeks ago where they received an automatic bid for winning the tournament. The NAIA Tournament team was the same as the AAC team - Hunter Clay, Jack Haller, Chanc Willis, Brooks Gineris, and Dalton Henson. This tournament brings the best individuals and teams from around the country to compete for the NAIA title. This year, Keiser University was the top team followed by Dalton State in second and Bellevue University was in third.
The Eagles finished in thirteenth place overall in the nation, which is a really good finish. They had to be in the top seventeen after the first two rounds so that was another major accomplishment for the Eagles. Reinhardt finished with a total team score of the four days 1174 which was forty-four strokes off of the leader.
Hunter Clay was the leader for the Eagles at the halfway point and he ended up staying in that spot at the end. He finished in tenth place overall which is tremendous. Over the four days, Clay had a total score of 283 which was just seven strokes behind the eventual winner. Chanc Willis was in second place for the Eagles with a total score of 294 and Brooks Gineris was the third finisher for the Eagles with a respectable score of 299 over the four days.
Reinhardt Men's Golf had a really good season finishing in the top five of almost every tournament they entered and they were the top one or two teams for several of them. The Eagles are looking to keep adding talent to their roster so they can keep doing well and move up the ranks of the NAIA. They are right on the edge of having a top ten team and most likely will achieve this in the next few seasons with this group.
