VALLEY, Ala. – (Live Video | Stats | Audio) No. 11 Reinhardt looks to make it back-to-back wins within the Appalachian Division tomorrow when the Eagles travel west to take on the Skyhawks of Point (Ga.) in a 1:30 p.m. kickoff inside Ram Stadium in Alabama.
Each team is looking to bounce back in one way or another after playing last Saturday, with the hometown squad (4-2, 1-0 Mid-South Conference (MSC)) holding off the high-flying Rams of Bluefield (Va.), 49-35, and the Skyhawks (1-5, 1-1 MSC) falling on the road at Faulkner (Ala.), 45-14.
Reinhardt is back on the road for the third time in four contests, but the lead Eagle understands how important this matchup with the Skyhawks is to the season as a whole.
"Really excited to play our in-state rival tomorrow in Point University," head coach James Miller said. "They always have a good football team and are very physical. We are chasing perfection, and we are still trying to play a whole game as an offense, defense and special teams unit. So, I hope we can make that happen.
"We have had a good week of preparation but hope we put it all together on field."
Reinhardt will look to attack the Skyhawks on both the offensive and defensive ends of the ball, as Point played the Eagles of Faulkner tough into the third period when the game was tied, 14-14. Faulkner would then get a pick-six and a touchdown to go up, 28-14, heading to the final quarter – before putting up 17 tallies in the fourth.
Point had 282 yards on offense, with 246 coming the air and 36 yards rushing. Payton Allen took majority of the snaps, completing 21-of-45 passes. Tyrique Robinson's lone appearance as quarterback connected for Point's opening touchdown (59 yards), and Brenton White took five snaps and connected with all five attempts.
The Eagles, who bolted out to a 49-13 advantage heading into the third quarter last week against Bluefield, had to hold off the Rams in the second half after being shut out, 22-0, in the final period (Reinhardt was scoreless in the second half).
Navarie Solomon racked up 113 yards on five catches with two touchdowns, while his quarterback – Billy Hall – finished the game with 224 yards on 13-of-15 and four scores. He also ran for 53 more and added a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
Tyler Hallum and Tylan Oglesby combined for 17 total tackles, and Jacorris Lamar recorded two interceptions. Keyovione Whitlock also had an interception that was returned deep into the red zone that set up a score.
