Down, but Not Out! Uncharacteristic Errors Set Back Eagles Chances
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Baseball continued its postseason run on Tuesday afternoon at Ken White Field, facing the #2 team in the Waleska Bracket, Loyola Wolf Pack. The Eagles were narrowly defeated by a final score of 7-6 in a game that would send the winner to the bracket championship game.
Reinhardt battled hard and found ways to get back into the game after giving up the lead a couple of times to the Wolf Pack. Each time Loyola would take a lead, the Eagles would march back to tie the game, however, they were not able to get a lead in the game.
The game saw significant contributions from several Eagles. Robert Phelps, Jacob Mantooth, Nash Crowell, Louis Dion, Luca Boscarino, and Cedric Cullars all scored runs for the Eagles. Among them, Phelps, Boscarino, and Dion each hit a home run, helping to strengthen the team's position throughout the game. Additionally, these players, along with Crowell, were also key in securing RBIs. Throughout the game, significant plays included a key double by Nash Crowell and a crucial single by Jacob Mantooth in the eighth inning, tying the game at 5-5. Despite these efforts, the Eagles could not maintain their momentum, and the game concluded with Loyola winning by one run.
Andrew Herbert started for the Eagles, and although it was not his best outing, he was able to keep control of the game and keep the Eagles within striking range. He struck out five batters, but gave up seven hits and three earned runs. Brett Allen came in to relieve Herbert in the eighth. The game was tied six all going into an inning that saw two hit batters and an error, which ended up pushing the winning run across the plate for the Wolf Pack.

Although the path to a repat run at the NAIA World Series is now more difficult, it is not impossible. Reinhardt willl need to win three straight games on Wednesday and Thursday this week. It will start with game one on Wednesday at Ken White Field where the Eagles will face Ave Maria. Ave Maria won their elimination game against Oakland CIty giving them a chance work their way back into the mix alond with the Eagles. The winner of game one on Wednesday will move to the Waleska Bracket Championship Game to face undefeated Loyola. Loyola has the upperhand on anyone they meed because they will have to be beaten twice not to advance. That will be the objective of Reinhardt in Wednesdays bracket games.
