Herbert Pitches a Two-Hit Complete Game Shutout to Keep Eagles in AAC Title Run
Kingsport, TN - Reinhardt Baseball kept the AAC Tournament hopes alive once again on Friday afternoon with a matchup against the Milligan Buffaloes. The Buffaloes gave Reinhardt their first loss of the tournament on Thursday, dropping the Eagles to the losers' bracket. The Eagles got the revenge on the arm of All-American pitcher Andrew Herbert, who was magnificent once again, throwing a complete game 2-0 shutout.
The story of the game was Andrew Herbert. He struck out four batters while only allowing two hits the entire game. It was an All-American performance showing why he is one of the best (if not THE best) pitchers in the NAIA.
Reinhardt (GA)Pitchers
| Pitchers | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Herbert (W, 12-0) | 9.0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 0 |
| Totals | 9.0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 0 |
The Eagles were able to score in the fifth and eighth innings giving them the two run edge. Ethan Moore (pinch running for Ryan Stephens) scored on an error by the Buffaloes. The next run would not come untl the eighth inning when Jacob Mantooth stepped up once again to push the Eagles across the finish line. Mantooth had an RBI single that scored Robert Phelps. This was ll the Eagles would need behind the arm of Herbert!
Adrian Vargas, Nash Crowell, and Ryan Stephens all had doubles in the game. Crowell and Stephens led the Eagles - both going 2 for 3 in the game.
The win will move Reinhardt into Saturday's championship mix. The Eagles are set to face Milligan again in the morning. The late afternoon game with Johnson versus Tennessee Wesleyan will also have an impace on the games for tomorrow.
