Crowell, Mantooth, Dion, and Eiseman all Homer to Help Eagles Win Big at Bluefield
Bluefield, VA- Reinhardt Baseball picked up an important win against the Rams of Bluefield University on Friday afternoon with a score of 13-7. However, the game was much closer than this for a majority of the game until the Eagles opened up the game in the eighth inning, scoring five runs. They scored a few more in the top of the ninth to walk away with the dominating win.
From the outset, the Eagles demonstrated their batting capabilities, with Jacob Mantooth leading the way by scoring three times and contributing a noteworthy four RBIs. One of his RBIs came in the fifth inning where he hit a solo shot homer that tied the game at five all.
Barry Eiseman and Louis Dion also made significant impacts, each hitting a home run, with Dion's crucial two-run homer in the 8th inning proving pivotal. This explosive inning saw the Eagles score five runs, effectively securing their lead and setting the stage for their win. Mantooth got the eighth inning started with a double that scored Adrian Vargas, Cameron Dorsey, and Eiseman. Eiseman's 2-run home run in the top of the 9th inning gave the team some cushion and allowed the Eagles to breathe some in the end.
Also homering in the game was first baseman Nash Crowell, who is coming off an injury that he sustained in last weekend's series in Waleska. He had a two-run homer that scored Robert Phelps. Phelps was 4 for 6 in the game with two runs scored.
The Eagles' starting pitcher, Andrew Herbert, played a key role in maintaining the lead for the Eagles. He pitched 6.1 innings, striking out three batters. The Rams did ding him up with nine hits, but he kept the game in control, only allowing two earned runs. Logan Lynch and Hayes Bryant came in to finish out the game for the Eagles. Lynch had a lot of success, striking out two, and he did not allow a hit or run in 1.2 innings.

The victory propels the Eagles to 33-9 overall, with a 19-6 standing in conference play. This keeps them in second place in the standings with only the two games at Bluefield on Saturday and the weekend series at home with CIU next weekend. Reinhardt has a chance to win the regular season with a slip up by Tennessee Wesleyan and/or Johnson University, but the Eagles have to win out. Any loss can send them down the conference standings. The doulbeheader is set for 1 and 4 pm on Saturday.
