Foley Saves the Day for Eagles in Doubleheader Matchup with Bryan
Waleska, GA - With the season coming down to the final few games of the regular season, the Eagles are scrapping for everything to try to get the second-place spot in the AAC standings. The Eagles are doing some late-season searching to try to find an answer for injured start pitcher, Andrew Herbert, who was leading the Eagles this season on the mound. In game one of the series with Bryan, the loss of Herbert was noticeable as the Eagles would go down 6-0. In game two, Ethan Foley would take the mound and control of the game where he would not allow the Eagles to lose. The Eagles went on to win game two, 3-0.
Game One
In game one, there are not many highlights on the Eagles' side. Reinhardt ran into Lion's ace pitcher, Cameron Harvey, who was almost unhittable in the game. Harvey pitched a complete game for Bryan and held the Eagles scoreless. The Eagles had a few chances to get runs home but always came up a little short getting the run home. Jarret Burney would be the closest as he would make his way to third base after he hit a single and advanced to third on an overthrown ball. He was never able to make it home as Harvey would buckle down to shut out the Eagles.
Reinhart was only able to get three total hits in the game.
On the mound, the Eagles would do the pitching by committee. The Eagles went through five pitchers trying to find answers to holding down Bryan. Coby Allison would get the start, but would only make it through the first two innings. Blake Rogers was the one bright spot for the Eagles where he only gave up one hit and no runs scored in his one inning of work. Hunter Paulsen would pitch the final three innings of the game where he only gave up three hits, but also allowed two runs to score.
To wrap up game one, you just have to say that Harvey had his game going and the Eagles were not able to put up runs, which is very unusual from most of their games this season.
Game Two
Game two was much better for the Eagles as Ethan Foley would take command on the mound by striking out six Lions. He pitched the entire seven-inning game, which ended with a strikeout and he gave hope to a chance that the Eagles can still make the second-place spot in the conference standings.
Foley achieved to Reinhardt Baseball Records in this game. He set the new record for Career Total Wins for the program and he hit the new mark of Career Innings Pitched. Foley has had an outstanding career for the Eagles and his name will be in the record books for years to come.
Reinhardt Pitching vs Bryan (Game Two)
| PITCHERS | IP | H | R | ER | BB | SO | HR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ETHAN FOLEY (W, 1-0) | 7.0 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 6 | 0 |
| Totals | 7.0 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 6 | 0 |
Offensively, the Eagles did not do their usual damage at the plate, which we have grown accustomed to this season. Shayne Campbell would pick up two RBIs with a double to center field that scored Lance Dockery and Dylan Lewis in the fourth inning. The Eagles would lead the Lions 2-0 after four innings.
Although the lead was not much, it would be plenty for the way Foley was pitching. Nash Crowell would add a little more security to this narrow 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth with a deep homer to left field. Crowell leads the Eagles with 15 home runs this season. This would be all that the Eagles needed to let Foley finish out the game for his fifth win of the season.
Reinhardt will try to build off this game two wins on Saturday when the Eagles will face Bryan for the final game of the series. The outcome of this game will be a determining factor in who ends up in the second spot of the AAC standings. The game is scheduled for 2 pm at Ken White Field and the seniors on the team will be honored after the game.
