Zdunich & Johns Go Deep to Help Eagles Win Against Faulkner
Waleska, GA - The Eagles get a non-conference win against Faulkner at Ken White Field on Tuesday, 12-6. The Eagles again scored in bunches with a couple of long balls and some good pitching most of the way.
Hal Stelljus would get the start and he has shown that he can be a viable starter for the Eagles. He pitched three innings getting one strikeout and holding Faulkner to three hits and two runs. Paker Miller would come in to relieve Stelljust in the fourth to pitch a scoreless three innings only giving up two hits. Miller is one of the most versatile pitchers on Coach Burton's staff as he can be used as a starter, middle relief, or even as a closer if needed. Miller picked up the win for the Eagles after the runs were scored in the fourth.
Will Casel would come in to relieve Miller in the seventh inning and he would go the seventh and some of the eighth before getting pulled. Casel would record one strikeout and only allow two hits, but he did give up a run. Blake Rogers would come in to pitch the final part of the eighth and the top of the ninth. The Eagles' offense gave the pitching staff a big cushion and it ended up being needed as Faulkner got three runs in the top of the ninth before Rogers closed out the game.
Offensively, the Eagles would be led by All-American Tucker Zdunich and Dawson "DJ" Johns. Zdunich went 3 for 4 scoring 4 runs and Johns went 2 for 3 scoring 2 runs. Both hit home runs in the game to help the Eagles get the big lead.
Jarrett Burney went 1 for 4 in the game scoring two runs and Jacob Profit went 2 for 5 in the game getting 3 RBIs and scoring a run in the process. Both Burney and Profit are essential pieces to the team both offensively and defensively.
The Eagles were able to get on the board with one run in the second, two in the fourth, and three in the fifth before having their big inning in the seventh where they scored five runs. They were able to pick up one more run in the eighth on Profit's RBI single to left field.
The Eagles will be on the road at Bluefield on Thursday and Friday this week for their weekly AAC series. The single game is on Thursday and the doubleheader on Friday. Next home game is next Tuesday versus Freed-Hardeman.
