Eagles Conclude Season at NAIA Opening-Round VS. IU Kokomo
Kokomo, IN - The Reinhardt University women's volleyball team faced a challenging opponent in the NAIA National Tournament's opening round on Saturday afternoon, at the Student Activities & Events Center in Kokomo, IN. Competing against IU Kokomo, the Eagles were unable to secure a win, concluding the match with a score of Reinhardt 0, IU Kokomo 3.
The match began with IU Kokomo taking a commanding lead, winning the first set 25-13. The Eagles showed improved form in the second set but were edged out with a score of 25-21. In a closely contested third set, Reinhardt displayed remarkable resilience, but IU Kokomo closed the set at 25-23, claiming the match victory.
Key performances for the Eagles included Juliette Baffico leading with 8 kills and key service aces in the third set. Breah Watson and Jenna Smith contributed 5 kills each. Defensive efforts were led by Emma Ponkova with 3 blocks, supported by Smith and Kaylee Cantlin. Silvia Aguado had a standout performance with 15 digs and 2 service aces, showcasing the team's defensive capabilities. Halle Janik and Ashlynn Barnes facilitated the offense with a combined total of 23 assists.
Despite the day's results, the Eagles concluded their season with significant accolades. They were honored as the AAC regular-season champions and runners-up in their conference tournament. Highlights of the season included numerous individual recognitions: setter of the year, assistant coach of the year, and three players making the 1st team all-conference. The team's commitment extended beyond the court, with numerous players earning positions on the AAC All-Academic team, reflecting both athletic and academic excellence.
