The Eagles Overpowered New College of Florida 20-1!
Sarasota, FL. - Reinhardt used a dominant first quarter and a career day from senior attacker Lawna Henry to cruise past New College of Florida 20-1 on Saturday afternoon at NCF Bayfront.
The Eagles seized control immediately, building a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and never allowing the hosts to recover. Henry finished with six goals and one assist to headline a balanced Reinhardt attack that saw 10 different players score. Reinhardt outscored New College 13-1 over the middle two quarters to remove any doubt and improve its early-season form.
Reinhardt set the tone in the opening 15 minutes, with Lainey Byrne striking first at 14:33 to put the Eagles in front 1-0. A free-position goal by Marissa Davis at 12:06 doubled the advantage before the visitors broke the game open late in the frame. Emma Perritte scored off a feed from Mary Grace Lewis to make it 5-0 at 9:16, and Chelbi Mcelwaney converted a pass from Miranda Petrillo at 7:32 to close the quarter with a 7-0 cushion.
Henry took over in the second quarter. She opened the frame with an assisted tally from Jessica Lucas at 13:13, then buried a free-position shot at 11:42 to push the margin to 9-0. Henry struck again at 2:59 to cap a personal first-half hat trick, part of a six-goal surge in the period for Reinhardt. Hayley Rakestraw and Perritte also found the net in the quarter, with Perritte's second goal at 2:08, assisted by Carly Harris, sending the Eagles into halftime with a commanding 13-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to control play after the break, scoring five times in the third quarter. Lewis opened the second-half scoring at 14:20 on a setup from Byrne, who added a goal of her own at 9:09 off a Lewis assist. Henry added two more goals in the frame, including one assisted by Byrne at 11:10 and another at 7:15, as the lead swelled to 17-0. New College's lone goal came from Ashley Palmer at 4:55 of the third, temporarily cutting the deficit to 17-1 before a free-position finish by Izzy Prestia restored the 17-goal margin.
Reinhardt closed out the scoring in the fourth quarter with two more goals. Casey Kidd connected at 11:58 on a feed from Henry, who capped her seven-point day with the assist. With 2:28 remaining, Skylar Arroyave delivered a man-down goal, punctuating the Eagles' complete performance and setting the final score at 20-1.
Byrne supported Henry's output with two goals and three assists, while Lewis added two goals and two assists and Perritte chipped in two goals and one assist. Overall, Reinhardt generated 34 shots, placing 30 on goal, and turned the ball over just once. Defensively, the Eagles held New College to six shots and forced six turnovers while winning 13 draw controls to the hosts' nine and recording 24 ground balls.
In goal, Katie Musulman played all 60 minutes for Reinhardt, allowing just one goal while making four saves on six shots faced. On the other end, New College goalkeeper Abbi Hardaker was under pressure throughout, stopping 10 of the 30 shots on goal she faced. The Eagles' dominant two-way effort at NCF Bayfront sets the stage for their next matchup, a road date at Florida College in Temple Terrace, Florida.
