Castillo, Ray Finish 2020 Cross Country Slate at National Championships
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – (Results) After waiting to run since Nov. 14, 2020, both Salvador Castillo and Braden Ray completed the 65th Annual Men's Cross Country National Championships on Friday at a sloppy Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Castillo finished the 8K race in 158th place with a time of 26:52.11 – the sixth-fastest run in Reinhardt history at the national meet. Ray crossed the finish line in 210th (out of 317 competitors) at 27:31.24.
Taylor (Ind.) won the team national championship with a cumulative score of just 73 points.
"Proud of Salvador and Braden for ending our cross country season on a high note," head coach Jordan Turner said. "Five months is a long time to take off from a big cross country meet-type environment and it was evident from everyone today. These guys have gone from cross country to indoor, outdoor, cross country and back to outdoor, so they should be proud of their efforts today.
"I'm extremely proud of what these guys are doing to build our cross country team to the top tier in the conference. We have a great recruiting class coming in, and this experience today will help them show the younger guys what it takes to compete at the highest level."
The guys will be back at it in the fall to get ready for the 2021 campaign.
