May and Schmidt Lead Eagles at Roadrunner Classic
Rocky Face, GA - Reinhardt University Men's Golf, ranked #2 in the NAIA polls, placed sixth at the Roadrunner Classic on March 30th-31st, finishing at 32-over par at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia. The Eagles were led by Zane May and Trey Schmidt, who each tied for 16th at 7-over for the three-round event, while Griffin Latimer followed in 18th place at 8-over.
On the 7,012-yard, par-72 course, Reinhardt opened the tournament with its best team round, posting an even-par score in Round 1. May set the early pace for the Eagles with a 2-under round, the lowest score by any Reinhardt golfer during the event. Schmidt added a steady, even-par opener, and Latimer came in at 1-over as Reinhardt positioned itself well in the 63-golfer field.
The Eagles moved to 10-over through two rounds after a team score of 10-over in Round 2. Schmidt again delivered consistency with a second straight even-par round, while Dyer carded a 2-over round and May and Latimer each finished at 4-over. Reinhardt remained in contention for a stronger team finish heading into the final round before a 22-over closing round pushed the team total to 32-over.
May and Schmidt matched each other at 7-over overall, but got there in different ways. May followed his opening 2-under round with scores of 4-over and 5-over, while Schmidt stayed level through the first two rounds before a 7-over final round left him tied with May on the final leaderboard. Latimer put together the most consistent three-round line for Reinhardt after the first day, finishing 1-over, 4-over and 3-over to take 18th at 8-over.
Pride Dyer finished 36th at 15-over after rounds of 1-over, 2-over and 12-over. MJ Hodge rounded out the Reinhardt lineup at 22-over with rounds of 6-over, 9-over and 7-over. Reinhardt's team scoring progression, even in Round 1, 10-over in Round 2 and 22-over in Round 3, defined a tournament in which the Eagles showed early stability before slipping back on the final day.
Reinhardt will return to competition April 20-21 at the AAC Championship at Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville, Georgia. Sitting at #2 in the NAIA gives the Eagles a good shot at a repeat appearance as a team in the NAIA National Tournament, which will take place in May, 2026.
