Eagles Golf Finishes Up Weather-Shortened Tournament in Florida
Palm Harbor, FL - The Eagles Men's and Women's Golf Teams were able to get in their tournament this week in Florida just before Hurricane Ian hits shore. The tournament was the Dalton State Invitational which was meant to be a 54-hole tournament, however, the storm that was growing in the Gulf of Mexico forced tournament officials to shorten the tournament to just 36-holes.
The tournament was being held at Innisbrook Resort where the men would play on the Copperhead Course and the women would play on the Innisbrook South Course.
The tournament results were not the best for the Eagles as the Men's Team finished 12th of 17 collegiate teams and the Women's Team finished 11th out of 12 collegiate teams. This tournament had most of the top-ranked schools in all of the NAIA playing which included powerhouses like Keiser University, Dalton State, and Southeastern Univerisity.
The top finisher on the men's side was Chanc Willis who finished in a very respectable 19th place overall in a very talented field. Willis shot 2 over par each day with a total score of 148. Hunter Clay and Brooks Gineris were just behind Willis with both scoring 152 total for both days.
On the women's side, Kailey Crawford shot an 83 and 79 for a total of 162 over the two days. This put her tied in 50th position. Brooke Newsome was just slightly behind with one stroke difference at 163 and Caroline Goddard was at 164 for the two days.
Both teams will look to keep improving on their fall season in the next few weeks as the Women's Team prepares for the Cumberland Invitational in Nashville, TN on Oct. 3rd & 4th. The Men's Team will play at the TWU Bojangles Invitational in Venore, TN on Oct. 3rd & 4th. Following these tournaments, both teams will prepare to play in the AAC Fall Preview with the Men's Team playing at Cross Creek in Seneca, SC on Oct. 17-18 and the Women's Team playing at Link Hill Country Club in Greenville, SC on Oct. 24th & 25th.
