Balanced First Half Scoring Secures Eagles First Win of the Season
Spartanburg, SC - Reinhardt Men's Basketball has had a slow start to its 2025-26 season, including key injuries that have hindered picking up points in the win column. After several competitive games of late, the Eagles were able to pull through on an AAC Saturday matchup with the Pioneers of Spartanburg Methodist, by a score of 79-58. The Eagles showcased their strength as the starting lineup had balanced scoring in the first half, ultimately sealing the win.
The game opened with the Eagles setting a strong pace, as Derrick Brown scored the initial points with a skillful jumper. This was followed by a series of successful plays, including an early dunk by forward Blake Seitz and a notable 9-0 scoring run. The early run, fueled by Brown and Blake Seitz, positioned Reinhardt to a substantial 18-point lead in the first period. The Eagles never looked back after the tremendous start. The starting five's balance was led by Nekhi Fisher's 8 points, 7 points each from AJ Shaw and Brown, Seitz with 6 points, and 4 points from Tee Williams. The first half ended in Reinhardt's favor, 35-19.
Williams and Fisher consistently delivered crucial plays to maintain and extend the Eagles' lead. Outstanding moments included a three-pointer by Arael Jones, pushing the advantage to a commanding 24 points by period's end. Reinhardt maintained control, culminating in a final score of 79-58. Jones ended the game with 7 points as the freshman continues to impress.
Top performers for Reinhardt included Tee Williams with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, and Derrick Brown's formidable presence in the paint. Blake Seitz also contributed significantly with 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Fisher ended the game in double-figure scoring with 12 points.
It was a great win for the young Eagles squad and gave AAC veteran coach Richard Morgan his first win as an Eagle. The test will come as the Eagles try to turn this win into a series of wins and jump back into the AAC mix.
Looking ahead, the Eagles, now standing at 1-1 in the AAC, will next confront the Truett McConnell Bears Tuesday evening at the Brown Athletic Center. The matchup with in-state rival Truett McConnell is always a highly competitive matchup between the two schools that share the North Georgia area. It should be an exciting night of basketball as the two square off before the Thanksgiving break.
