Newton Steps Down from Men's Basketball After Six Seasons with the Program
Waleska, GA—Reinhardt Athletics announces the resignation of Justin Newton, Head Men's Basketball Coach. Newton has decided to step down to pursue other opportunities after spending the last seven years at Reinhardt.
While being the head of Reinhardt Basketball, Newton accumulated a record of 90-86 and an overall record of 114-94. Newton came to Reinhardt after having a successful run at Anderson College, where he won the GCAA conference with a record of 24-8.
After winning just nine games during his first season at Reinhardt, he strung together three winning seasons where the team finished in first place once and then second place twice in the Appalachian Athletic Conference standings.
Newton began his coaching career at Arkansas-Monticello in 2016 as an assistant coach. He had stops at Lee University, Columbus State College, and South Georgia State before getting his first head role at Andrew College.
Executive Director of Athletics Jonathan Burton will start the search for Newton's replacement immediately. He had this to say about the departure of Coach Newton and the future of Reinhardt Men's Basketball: " We are thankful for Coach Newton and what he brought to our basketball program. His work ethic and dedication to improving our student athletes, not just in the game of basketball, were on display daily. He will be missed, and we wish him nothing but the best on his next opportunity.
" I am excited about the direction of our program and will work quickly and diligently in finding the next head coach for our players, fans, and institution. This is a very competitive conference, and we will bring in the best coach we can to help us continue to elevate Reinhardt Basketball."
Reinhardt Basketball's first game for the 2025-26 season will begin in late October, with practices starting in August. It will be top priority to have this position filled quickly, with the recruiting process in full swing now.
Reinhardt Athletics would like to thank Coach Justin Newton for his service, expertise, skills, and friendship to the Reinhardt community over the past seven years. We wish you and your family all the best with the new opportunities that come your way. Reinhardt Basketball is in a better place because of your efforts.
