Hanson's Heroics Push Eagles Past the Knights; Colbert Third Straight 100+ Yards Game!
Grayson, Kentucky- In a pivotal conference clash, the Reinhardt Eagles emerged victorious against the Kentucky Christian Knights, clinching a narrow 38-35 on the road in Kentucky. The Eagles' performance was highlighted by key plays and significant contributions from several players in this Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) showdown.
The game began with an electrifying 79-yard touchdown run by Jah Colbert, which set a competitive tone for the match. Taylor Jackson threw a 5-yard touchdown to Austin Davis. Jah Colbert found the end zone again with a 7-yard touchdown. The Knights fought the 1st half, scoring two touchdowns, trailing the Eagles 21-14.
The second half continued the trend of tight competition, characterized by several lead changes. The Eagles showed their dominance from the rushing side, scoring a 6-yard touchdown from Jamarion Walker and a 1-yard touchdown from Jackson. Even with this offensive domination, the Knights continued to fight back and tied the score 35-35 with only five minutes left in the game. The Eagles got the ball back and controlled the game with 13 plays, 72 yards, and a game-winning 22-yard field goal from Alex Hanson! Colbert had eight carries alone in the final drive of the game for Reinhardt, and he had 22 total carries in the game.
Reinhardt's offense was propelled by noteworthy performances, including Colbert with 153 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Taylor Jackson also made significant contributions with 168 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. Hanson played a crucial role, successfully executing all attempts, including a pivotal 22-yard field goal that sealed the game for the Eagles.
Defensively, Gabe Helton's interception was a highlight. Carter Hicks led the team with 6 tackles (5 solo), and Emmanuel Olation contributed with 4 tackles (3 solo) - two of which were tackles for a loss.
Looking ahead, the Eagles, currently at a 3-3 overall record and undefeated in AAC play (2-0), will face the Bluefield Rams next Saturday in Waleska. This is Homecoming Week for Reinhardt University, so there will be additional excitement in the air leading up to the noon kickoff. Reinhardt aims to maintain their momentum as it continues to navigate the competitive landscape of their conference. After Bluefield, the Eagles will finish up their schedule with Rio Grande on the road on November 1st, Point University at home on November 8th, and the University of Pikeville (UPike) on November 15th.
