Whittemore Announced to Take Over Men's Lacrosse
Waleska, GA - Reinhardt Athletics announced on Friday, May 9th, the new addition to their coaching staff. Former Eagle Trey Whittemore has been selected by Athletic Director Jonathan Burton to lead Reinhardt Men's Lacrosse.
Whittemore is no stranger to Reinhardt University, having played for the Eagles' lacrosse team from 2017 to 2019, during which the team secured three straight NAIA National Titles. His playing experience at Reinhardt will serve as a valuable asset in understanding and developing the team's culture and dynamics.
Whittemore's playing career started at Kennesaw Mountain High School, where he was an All-State performer in Lacrosse. His high school success led him to Young Harris College and then to Reinhardt University. After his collegiate playing career ended, he served as the Defensive Coordinator/Assistant Coach while working on his Master's Degree at Reinhardt. In total, he spent three seasons with the Eagles as an assistant coach, where the team won two NAIA National Championships and built a 31-1 record!
Following his time at Reinhardt, Whittemore was hired by Missouri Baptist to lead their men's lacrosse program. He was the head coach for the Spartans from 2022 - 2024, where he was named Coach of the Year for the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and coached six All-Conference players. After Missouri Baptist, Whittemore accepted an assistant coaching position at Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina, where he served as the Defensive Coordinator. In his one season at Coker, he helped the Cobras bring in their largest recruiting class in the program's history at 23 recruits.
Burton had this to say about Whittemore taking over Reinhardt Men's Lacrosse, "I am very excited to add Trey back to our Reinhardt family. His experience on the field as a student athlete and then again as a former head coach made him the perfect choice for our program. We are excited to see what he can do as the head coach of the program he helped build as a player. Reinhardt lacrosse is in great hands!"
Whittemore added this about the new opportunity, "I'm thrilled for the opportunity to return to my alma mater, and I've learned a lot not only about the game, but myself and my coaching abilities. I am ready to hit the ground running. Go Eagles!"
Whittemore's ties to the North Georgia youth and high school lacrosse programs will help him develop a recruiting base in our area. He has gained experience from his years served as a player, youth coach, high school coach, and collegiate coach, where he has developed a vast network of resources that will only help bolster a program that is traditionally one of the best in the NAIA. He will take over a program that went 11-3 overall in 2025 and went to the NAIA National Tournament as the #2 seed. The Eagles will look to get back to the perennial NAIA Title contenders in 2026. They have been in the NAIA Title game six out of the ten years of the NAIA Men's Lacrosse National Tournament, and they have won five total titles in those ten years.
