Coach Bill Popp heads into his 3rd season at the helm of the baseball program at Reinhardt College. Coach Popp has guided the Eagles to a 37-68 record in their brief two year history. Coach Popp came to Reinhardt from Oglethorpe University, where he was the head baseball coach from 1992-2004. The Eagles finished the 2006 season with a 21-32 overall record, and a 7-23 record in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) which placed them 10th. The 2006 season saw an improved record, and a win over #5 NAIA ranked Auburn University of Montgomery. The 2007 season will feature two games against NCAA Division I opponents, and the first Senior Class in Reinhardt baseball history. The Eagles have brought in another excellent recruiting class for the 2007 season, and look forward to making postseason play this year.
In his tenure as head coach of the Stormy Petrels, Coach Popp led Oglethorpe to three Eastern Division Championships in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference-NCAA Division III. He had 25 All-Conference performers, 8 All-South members, 2 Academic All-Americans, 3 Conference Players of the Year, and was also named the SCAC Coach of the Year in 2002 while at Oglethorpe. After just two seasons at Reinhardt, Coach Popp has added two more All-Conference players, 10 Academic All-Conference players, a Freshman of the Year, an All-Region XIII player, an Honorable Mention All-American, and an Academic All-American.
Coach Popp was also an integral part of the highly successful East Cobb baseball program. Serving as the Assistant Head Coach to John Ihlenburg of the East Cobb Ringors 18 & under program since 1990.
Bill is a graduate of Kennesaw State University where he played from 1989-1991. He and his wife Jennifer reside in Canton.
