WALESKA, Ga. -- Ciara Hilburn, a 5-foot-4 midfielder from Woodstock, Ga., has signed a letter of intent to attend Reinhardt University in the fall and play for the Lady Eagles' first-year women's lacrosse program in the spring of 2011 under head coach Alyson Whitley. Hilburn comes to Reinhardt from Woodstock High School, where she played for head coach Mike Yeager.
"Ciara is a great lacrosse player and overall tremendous athlete," Whitley said. "I was able to coach Ciara this summer when she played for my Atlanta Elite travel team, so it is nice to already know how she is on the field. Ciara is extremely coachable and I know how hard I can push her -- she is a tough girl who will do anything for her team. She is the kind of player where if we were down by one and are running out of time in a game, I can tell her to take it to the goal and she will do it with no questions asked. Ciara has the skills and personality to be one of our biggest leaders on and off the field, and I am excited for her to step up and take on that role."
Hilburn, the daughter of Brent and Cindy Hilburn, was a second team all-state selection in 2009 after tallying a single season school-record 82 goals with 11 assists. Hilburn, a team captain and Woodstock's Most Valuable Player in her final year, also holds school records for goals in a game and in a career.
Hilburn said that she wanted to come to Reinhardt because she is excited to be a part of a first-year program that is close to home.
Hilburn chose the Lady Eagles over lacrosse offers from Berry College and Shorter University.
