WALESKA, Ga. -- Nikki Roddy, a 5-foot-5 utility player from Canton, Ga., has signed a letter of intent to attend Reinhardt University in the fall and play softball for the Lady Eagles in 2011 under head coach Glen Crawford, the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Roddy comes to Reinhardt as a transfer from Chipola College and has two years of athletic eligibility remaining. She is a 2008 graduate of Woodstock High School, where she played for former head coach Tonya Sebring.
"Nikki's going to help us out at third base and with her hitting," Crawford said. "She led her team at Chipola in batting last year, so I think she'll really help our lineup. She's a really great pickup for us and I think she'll be an impact player here at Reinhardt."
Roddy, the daughter of Chuck and Terri Roddy, played the past two seasons at Chipola. In 2010, she helped lead her team to a 49-13 overall record as the Lady Indians won Panhandle Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association Region 8 championships before advancing deep into the NJCAA Division I national tournament. Chipola was ranked third in the country before the national event and Roddy finished her sophomore season with a .413 batting average, six home runs, 10 doubles, 39 RBIs and 38 runs scored. At Woodstock, she earned four varsity letters in softball and also played one season of basketball. In softball, Roddy received both all-county and all-region honors in each of her last three years, including first team all-county accolades in 2007 and 2005 and first team all-region recognition as a sophomore. She was also named her squad's Offensive Player of the Year in two of her final three campaigns. As a junior, Roddy was a member of the Lady Wolverines' 2006 Class AAAAA state championship club. Her sister, Danielle Roddy, was a standout player at NCAA Division I Georgia State University.
"It'll be nice to come back and be closer to home, and I like the fact that it's a smaller campus with smaller classes," Roddy said. "I know Reinhardt has a really good softball program and I think it's going to be a good year."
Roddy chose the Lady Eagles over softball offers from NCAA Division II Valdosta State University and Brenau University.
