WALESKA, Ga. -- Makenzie Bruce, from Canton, Ga., has signed a letter of intent to attend Reinhardt University in the fall and play golf for the Lady Eagles in 2010-11 under head coach Ken Dixon. The 5-foot-6 Bruce comes to Reinhardt from Sequoyah High School in Canton, where she played for head coach Kathryn Lockrem.
Bruce, the daughter of Ed and Tonya Bruce, was a four-time varsity letterwinner at Sequoyah, helping to lead her team to three Cherokee County championships. Bruce twice earned all-county recognition from the Cherokee Tribune and in her final season, she captured medalist honors in several regular season matches. Also in 2010, Bruce finished tied for 11th place at the Region 7-AAAA Championship as the Lady Chiefs ended fourth. During her junior campaign, SHS went undefeated in the regular season before finishing third in the region.
"It's close to home," Bruce said of Reinhardt. "I went on a tour and I really liked the campus and the way things are laid out. I just really liked the environment."
Bruce chose the Lady Eagles over NCAA Division II members Young Harris College, the University of West Georgia and Armstrong Atlantic State University; NCAA Division III affiliate Oglethorpe University; and Andrew College.
