SILVIS, Ill. -- The Reinhardt College men's golf team wrapped up its extremely successful 2009-10 season on Thursday at the 59th Annual NAIA National Championship. Reinhardt, the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference champion, shot 330 during the third round of play to finish tied for 25th place with a 958 (+106) total, missing the 54-hole cut of top 17 teams (including ties). The event is being played at the par-71, 6983-yard TPC Deere Run course with 29 squads taking part.
The Eagles opened play on Tuesday with 308 for 23rd place and remained there after shooting 320 on Wednesday.
Freshman Zach Lindsey, who earned 2010 All-AAC honors, paced Reinhardt with 75-75-81--231 (+18), tying for 58th place in the 156-player field. Jason Mobley finished with 83-80-80--243 to tie for 123rd place while all-conference performer Chris Cartwright was at 75-81-88--244 to tie for 125th. The Eagles' other competitors were Rudi Lee (81-84-81--246, tied for 131st) and freshman All-AAC pick Dan Merriman (77-85-89--251, 143rd). Only the top 40 individuals (including ties) advance to play on Friday, and the cut was at 228.
In the team standings, top-ranked Oklahoma City University (293-299-304) and No. 3-rated Malone University (299-293-304) are tied for the lead at 44-over-par 896. Tied for third place are second-ranked Oklahoma Christian University (291-301-306) and No. 10-rated University of South Carolina Beaufort (295-291-312) at 898. Rounding out the top five is Grand View University with 297-313-291--901. The cut for teams was at 924.
Reinhardt concluded the 2010 spring season with four votes in the final NAIA poll to rank No. 39 nationally.
