SILVIS, Ill. -- At the 59th Annual NAIA National Championship on Wednesday, the Reinhardt College men's golf team -- the 2010 Appalachian Athletic Conference champion -- shot 320 for a 628 (+60) total after two rounds to remain in 23rd place. The 72-hole tournament is taking place at the par-71, 6983-yard TPC Deere Run course with 29 teams competing.
After 36 holes, Zach Lindsey -- a 2010 All-AAC pick as a freshman -- is leading the way for Reinhardt with 75-75--150 (+8), which is good for a tie for 39th place among 156 participants. Chris Cartwright and freshman Dan Merriman, who were both All-AAC honorees, have shot 75-81--156 (tied for 91st) and 77-85--162 (tied for 130th), respectively, and are followed by Jason Mobley at 83-80--163 (tied for 135th) and Rudi Lee at 81-84--165 (tied for 165th).
The University of South Carolina Beaufort, ranked 10th nationally in the NAIA, took over the team lead with 295-291--586 (+18). Included in a four-way tie for second place at 592 are No. 2-rated Oklahoma Christian University (291-301), eighth-ranked Southern Nazarene University (298-294), No. 3-rated Malone University (299-293), and top-ranked Oklahoma City University (293-299).
The Eagles, who received four votes in the final NAIA poll to rank 39th in the country, continue play in the national tournament with morning tee times on Thursday. Only the top 17 teams and the top 40 individuals (including ties) advance to compete on Friday. After two rounds, the cuts are at 611 for teams and 150 for players.
