KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- The No. 5-seed Reinhardt College baseball team concluded its 2010 season on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to the fourth-seeded Milligan College Buffaloes as part of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship tournament. The nine-team, double-elimination event is taking place at Hunter-Wright Stadium with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship tournament.
Reinhardt scored once in the first inning but Milligan tied the game in the bottom of the second. With two runs in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth, the Buffaloes went ahead 4-1. In the seventh inning, the Eagles pushed across a run, trimming the deficit to 4-2, before Milligan concluded the scoring with one run in the bottom half.
Reinhardt managed just four hits and made two errors, compared to 11 and none for the Buffs. Milligan left seven runners on base and the Eagles five.
All-AAC performer Michael Willis went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Reinhardt while Brent Martin had the squad's only extra-base hit, a double. Jeremy Roberts and Billy King each singled and scored a run while Brad Blalock contributed an RBI.
On the mound for the Eagles, Josh Wilson pitched all eight innings in suffering the defeat. He allowed three earned runs with three strikeouts and no walks.
Reinhardt finishes 2010 at 27-24 overall while the Buffs continue in the tournament at 31-20. The Eagles ended in fifth place during the AAC regular season with a 14-12 record.
