WALESKA, Ga. -- Garrick Sanford, from Chatsworth, Ga., has signed a letter of intent to attend Reinhardt College in the fall and play tennis for the Eagles during the 2011 spring season under head coach Jennifer Sackman. The 6-foot, 170-pound Sanford will come to Reinhardt as a transfer from North Georgia College & State University, where he did not compete. Sanford will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Sanford, the son of Michael and Leigh Sanford, is a 2009 graduate of Murray County High School in Chatsworth, where he was a standout tennis and basketball player. In tennis, he earned four varsity letters and was a 2009 All-Area selection by The (Dalton, Ga.) Daily Citizen. As Murray County's No. 1 singles player, Sanford posted a 9-1 record as a senior, leading his team to a runner-up finish in Region 7-AAAA and into the second round of the state playoffs. As a basketball player, he was a three-time letterman and his squad's Most Valuable Player in his senior season, when he also garnered second team all-region honors. Sanford averaged 12.5 points per game in 2008-09 when the Indians went 19-10 overall, advancing to the state tournament. A fine all-around student-athlete, Sanford also ran cross country for one season.
"My mom and my aunt both went here," Sanford said of Reinhardt. "I came to visit here and I just knew it was the place for me. The coaches and the team members were just so friendly, and I knew it would be right for me."
