WALESKA, Ga. -- Five members of the 2010 Reinhardt College men's and women's tennis teams were recently honored with postseason awards from the Appalachian Athletic Conference. In a vote of the six AAC head coaches, the Reinhardt men's squad had one All-AAC selection and two players qualify for the all-academic team. The Lady Eagles had four members who earned a spot on the AAC All-Academic Team.
Nahum Vigo-Fas, a 5-foo-7, 150-pound sophomore from Roswell, Ga., was Reinhardt's lone all-conference pick. Vigo-Fas played in all 12 matches in 2010, earning six singles wins, most of them at the No. 4 position, and six victories at No. 2 doubles.
Joining Vigo-Fas on the AAC All-Academic Team was teammate Tyler Winters, a 6-foot, 165-pound sophomore out of Woodstock, Ga. From the Lady Eagles, Courtney Garrett (5-foot-11 freshman from Bowdon, Ga.), Kayla Spivey (5-foot-8 freshman out of Woodstock) and sister Kristie Spivey (5-foot-6 senior from Woodstock) each received all-academic accolades. To be recognized as a member of the all-academic team, a player must: have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better, be at least a sophomore in academic status and have played in a minimum of 50 percent of the team's competitions.
Reinhardt's representatives on the AAC Champions of Character Squads were Winters for the men and Kayla Spivey on the women's side.
The Reinhardt men's team finished its 2010 campaign with a 4-8 overall record and ended in fifth place during the AAC regular season with a 2-4 mark. The No. 4-seeded Eagles won a first-round match at the AAC Tournament before losing in the semifinal round to the top-seeded Union College (Ky.) Bulldogs, who are ranked 13th nationally in the NAIA. The Lady Eagles, the No. 5 seeds at the AAC Tournament, concluded their season at 1-9 overall and were 1-5 in the conference for sixth place.
