BLUEFIELD, Va. -- Both the men's and women's tennis teams from Reinhardt College registered Appalachian Athletic Conference wins at Bluefield College on Saturday. The Reinhardt men's squad won 9-0 over the Ramblin' Rams while the women earned a 6-3 victory over the Lady Rams.
In the men's match, the Eagles' doubles teams of freshman Justin Wagner and Tyler Winters at No. 1 (8-2) and freshman Dillon Southerland and Nahum Vigo-Fas at No. 2 (8-1) were victorious. The singles winners included Wagner in the top spot (8-2), Winters at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), Southerland at No. 3 (8-0), Vigo-Fas at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0) and Bobby Bolender at No. 5 (8-6). Reinhardt picked up forfeit wins at No. 3 doubles and at No. 6 singles.
The women's competition saw sisters Kayla Spivey and Kristie Spivey prevail at No. 1 doubles (8-1) while the duo of freshmen Courtney Garrett and Lauren Long collected an 8-0 triumph at No. 2 doubles. In singles play, the winners were Kayla Spivey in the top position (6-1, 7-6), Kristie Spivey at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0), Garrett at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0) and Long at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0). Bluefield got its three points from forfeits at the No. 3 doubles, and No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles positions.
The Reinhardt men's team improves to 3-7 overall and finishes 2-4 in the AAC while the Ramblin' Rams dip to 0-7 overall and 0-5 in conference matches. On the women's side, the Lady Eagles are 1-8 overall and end 1-5 in the AAC while Bluefield falls to 0-7 overall, including 0-5 in conference play. Both Reinhardt squads are scheduled to conclude their 2010 regular seasons with non-conference matches at the NCAA Division III LaGrange College Panthers on Tuesday. The matches are slated for 3 p.m. in LaGrange, Ga.
