WALESKA, Ga. -- In an Appalachian Athletic Conference game on Tuesday afternoon, the Reinhardt College baseball team picked up a 13-7 victory over the visiting Bryan College Lions at Ken White Baseball Field.
Following a scoreless first inning, Bryan scored once in the second before Reinhardt erupted with eight runs in the bottom half. The Lions tallied two runs and the Eagles three in the third inning, making the score 11-3. The guests pushed across two more runs in the fourth inning and Reinhardt added a run in the home half, making it a 12-5 contest. Bryan posted a single run in each of the sixth and ninth innings while the Eagles scored once in the seventh.
Reinhardt collected 16 hits and left seven runners on base, compared to 10 and six, respectively, for the Lions. The Eagles committed three errors and Bryan two.
Billy King was 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored for the winners while Jeremy Roberts went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Freshman Ethan Starr drove in four runs and scored two others after going 2-for-5 while Brent Martin finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Brad Blalock ended 1-for-2 with a walk and a pair of runs scored while Mike Smothers was 1-for-3 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Brett Flick had a hit and three RBIs while Joe Niehoff smacked a solo home run. Michael Willis chipped in with a single, an RBI and a run scored.
Matt Carter started and pitched one inning for Reinhardt before giving way to Ben Gonglach, who went five innings for the win, striking out three. Pat Maynard recorded a save with three innings of no-hit relief in which he allowed one run and struck out two.
The Eagles improve to 9-10 overall and 2-4 in AAC play while the Lions dip to 12-12 overall, including 4-2 in the conference. Reinhardt hosts an AAC game on Friday at 6 p.m. against the Virginia Intermont College Cobras.
