FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- In non-conference matches on the road on Tuesday, the Reinhardt College men's and women's tennis teams lost to the Emmanuel College Lions and Lady Lions, respectively. The Reinhardt men fell 5-4 while the women opened their 2010 season with a 6-3 loss.
In the men's match, the Eagles' No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Winters and freshman Justin Wagner won 8-4 while the No. 2 tandem of freshman Dillon Southerland and Nahum Vigo-Fas claimed an 8-1 victory. The singles winners for Reinhardt were Southerland at No. 3 (1-6, 6-0, 6-1) and Vigo-Fas at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2). The Eagles forfeited matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
During the women's competition, Reinhardt's No. 2 doubles duo of freshmen Courtney Garrett and Lauren Long captured an 8-6 triumph. Sisters Kayla Spivey, a freshman, and Kristie Spivey produced victories at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-4) and No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-2), respectively. The Lady Eagles surrendered points at No. 3 doubles, and No. 5 and No. 6 singles due to forfeits.
The Reinhardt men's squad drops to 0-2 overall while Emmanuel is 2-5. On the women's side, the Lady Eagles are 0-1 overall and the Lady Lions are 2-6. Both Reinhardt teams are scheduled to host the NCAA Division III Piedmont College Lions and Lady Lions this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
