BREVARD, N.C. -- The Reinhardt College men's golf team competed in the Montreat College Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, ending as the runner-up among six squads with a 36-hole score of 607 (+31). The two-day tournament was played at the par-72, 6700-yard Glen Cannon Golf Club.
After 18 holes on Monday, Reinhardt was tied for third place at 313. The Eagles rallied on Tuesday by firing 294, moving into sole possession of second place. The NCAA Division II Limestone College Saints edged Reinhardt by 13 strokes after shooting 301-293--594. The Brevard College Tornados, also members of NCAA Division II, finished third at 311-310--621 with the other three teams -- the Virginia Intermont College Cobras, the Union College (Ky.) Bulldogs and the host Montreat Cavaliers -- coming from the Appalachian Athletic Conference and placing seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. The Eagles and Union each received one vote in the latest NAIA poll to rank tied for 41st nationally.
Individually for Reinhardt, freshmen Dan Merriman (78-73--151) and Zach Lindsey (81-70--151) each earned a spot on the all-tournament team after tying for fifth place. Justin Osborne was 10th with 75-79--154 while Jason Mobley tied for 11th at 82-73--155. Rudi Lee recorded scores of 79 and 78 for a 157 total, tying for 17th place.
The Eagles are slated to participate in the Bluefield College Ramblin' Rams Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, April 5-6. The event will be held at the Draper Valley Golf Club in Draper, Va.
