JACKSON, Tenn. -- At the Union University Invitational on Saturday, the Reinhardt College softball squad played three games at Fesmire Field, winning one and losing two. Reinhardt began the day with a 13-6 loss to the Davenport University Lady Panthers before bouncing back with a 4-3 win in eight innings over the host Union Lady Bulldogs, who received 32 votes in the latest NAIA poll to rank No. 34 nationally. Union avenged the defeat with a 7-6 victory against the Lady Eagles.

In Reinhardt's contest against Davenport, there were three lead changes after each team scored once in the first inning. The Lady Eagles went ahead 3-1 with a single run in each of the second and third innings before the Lady Panthers took a 5-3 advantage with four runs in the bottom of the third. Reinhardt regained the lead, 6-5, with a three-run fourth inning but Davenport pulled away by scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth and three in the sixth.

The Lady Panthers finished with 15 hits while the Lady Eagles had 10. Davenport stranded nine base runners and Reinhardt eight, and the Lady Eagles made four the game's seven errors.

For Reinhardt, Bailey Arnaud went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Haley Williams was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Lindsey Booker and Andrea Thibaudeau each ended 1-for-3 with a run scored while Sarah Brown also had a hit in three at-bats.

In the circle, Becca Jones pitched five innings for the Lady Eagles and suffered the loss. Kelsey Floyd threw one scoreless inning in relief.

Each squad scored a run in the third inning during the day's first meeting between Reinhardt and the Lady Bulldogs. Union went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth before the Lady Eagles tallied a run in the sixth inning, tying the contest. In the eighth inning while using the international tie-breaker rule, Reinhardt pushed across two runs before the Lady Bulldogs managed just one run in the bottom half.

The Lady Eagles outhit Union 7-5. Reinhardt committed two errors and left six runners on base, compared to one and five, respectively, for the Lady Bulldogs.

Freshman Maddie Monroe pitched all eight innings in posting the win for the Lady Eagles. She allowed two earned runs while striking out 13 and walking none.

At the plate for the winners, Booker finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Cali Lovett went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Arnaud was 1-for-3 with a run scored while Floyd also singled in three at-bats. Thibaudeau scored two runs and collected an RBI after going 1-for-4.

In Reinhardt's third contest of the day, Union came up with three runs in the second inning before the Lady Eagles got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the third. The Lady Bulldogs went ahead 7-1 with a pair of runs in each of the third and sixth innings but Reinhardt staged a furious seventh-inning comeback by scoring five times before falling just short.

Union had eight hits, stranded six base runners and was guilty of two errors. The Lady Eagles totaled seven hits, left four on base and made three errors.

Williams ended 2-for-4 with an RBI for Reinhardt while Ashley Kennedy went 1-for-2 with a run scored. Lovett and Brown were each 1-for-3 with a run scored while Thibaudeau stroked a three-run double and scored once in four at-bats. Alex Riccardi added a hit.

Monroe again got the pitching start for the Lady Eagles and this time took the loss. She went 5 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs. Jones came in and struck out both batters she faced.

Despite the two losses, Reinhardt is still off to its best start in school history at 17-6 overall while the Lady Panthers are 17-4 and the Lady Bulldogs are 12-7. The Lady Eagles begin Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when traveling to take on the Milligan College Lady Buffaloes, the AAC preseason favorites, in a doubleheader. Game one is set for 2 p.m. in Milligan College, Tenn.
