JACKSON, Tenn. -- On Friday at the Union University Invitational, the Reinhardt College softball team blanked the Davenport University Lady Panthers 1-0 before losing 14-5 to the host Union Lady Bulldogs, who received 32 votes in the most recent NAIA poll to rank 34th nationally. The three-team Union University Invitational is being played over two days at Fesmire Field.

In its win over Davenport, Reinhardt pushed across the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kelsey Floyd's double scored Andrea Thibaudeau, who had walked.

The Lady Eagles collected four hits, half of them coming in the seventh inning, while the Lady Panthers had three. Reinhardt made the contest's lone error.

Freshman Maddie Monroe pitched her fourth complete-game shutout of the season for the Lady Eagles. In recording the victory, she went seven innings with six strikeouts and no walks.

For the winners, Floyd finished 2-for-3 while freshman Lindsey Booker returned to action, after missing the last 15 contests with an injury, by going 1-for-3. Haley Williams also had a hit in three at-bats.

Against Union, Reinhardt gave up seven runs in the top of the first inning before scoring twice in the bottom half. Union went ahead 9-2 with a single run in each of the second and third innings before the Lady Eagles tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. That would be as close as Reinhardt would get as the Lady Bulldogs responded with two runs in the fifth inning before each team scored once in the sixth. Union tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning.

The Lady Bulldogs outhit the Lady Eagles 22-8 and stranded 10 base runners. Union committed two errors and Reinhardt none.

Williams led the Lady Eagles' offense by going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored while Cali Lovett went 2-for-3 with a double. Freshman Kimber Beard was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Sarah Brown hit a solo home run. Bailey Arnaud chipped in with a single.

In the pitching department for Reinhardt, Alex Riccardi got the start and suffered the loss. Floyd threw seven innings in relief.

The Lady Eagles are 16-4 overall and off to the best start in their six-year history while Davenport is 16-4 and Union is 11-6. Reinhardt plays three more games on Saturday at the Union University Invitational.
