ROME, Ga. -- On Monday and Tuesday, the Reinhardt College men's golf team competed at the Rome News-Tribune Invitational, finishing in ninth place of 15 teams with a 36-hole total of 613. Berry College hosted the tournament at the par-72, 6688-yard Stonebridge Golf Club.
Playing 18 holes each day, Reinhardt opened with 304 on Monday and followed with 309 on Tuesday. The Shorter College Hawks, who received 59 votes in the latest NAIA poll to rank 29th nationally, shot 288-291--579 to win the event by two strokes over the Lee University Flames (296-285--581), who are ranked No. 9 in the country among NAIA squads. The University of the Cumberlands Patriots, ranked 15th nationally in the NAIA, ended in third place at 292-294--586, ahead of the host Berry Vikings (302-287--598) and the St. Thomas University Bobcats (296-294--590), who earned 53 votes in the most recent NAIA poll to rank 30th in the nation.
Zach Lindsey was the Eagles' top finisher with 2-over-par 70-76--146, which was good for a 12th-place tie in the 93-player field. Jason Mobley fired 75-76--151 (+7) to tie for 31st while Justin Osborne shot 80-75--155 (+11), tying for 49th.
Reinhardt's next scheduled event is the Montreat College Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, March 15-16. The tournament takes place at Glen Cannon Country Club in Brevard, N.C.
