WALESKA, Ga. -- Reinhardt College softball players Bailey Arnaud and Maddie Monroe have been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their play from March 1-7. It marks the first time Arnaud and Monroe have each received the weekly conference honor.
Arnaud, a 5-foot sophomore outfielder from Kennesaw, Ga., hit .421 with three doubles, a triple, six runs scored and four RBIs as Reinhardt went 5-1 last week with two wins over nationally ranked teams and the only loss coming to No. 6-rated William Carey University by the score of 2-1. She had a .684 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and stole four bases. In a 13-0 victory over Dillard University, Arnaud went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.
On the season, Arnaud has started all 18 games and is batting .351 with team highs of 16 runs scored, six doubles, two triples and 33 total bases. She also has a home run, 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
A 5-foot-7 freshman pitcher/first baseman out of Calhoun, Ga., Monroe pitched in three games last week, all against nationally ranked teams at the University of Mobile Classic. She went 2-1 with a 0.37 ERA, allowing one earned run while striking out 29 and walking one in 19 innings. Monroe pitched a complete game shutout in a 9-0 win over No. 19-rated Notre Dame College before throwing eight innings of one-hit relief, with 10 strikeouts, in a 2-1, 10-inning victory at 18th-ranked Mobile. In the loss to William Carey, she pitched all six innings, giving up four hits and one earned run with 14 strikeouts and no walks.
Monroe began her collegiate career with a perfect game and is 5-1 on the season with a 0.49 ERA, including three shutouts in five starts. In 42 2/3 innings of work, she has allowed just 19 hits and three earned runs while striking out 57 and walking only four. Opponents are batting .130 against Monroe.
Reinhardt is off to its best start in the six-year history of the program, posting a 15-3 overall record thus far. The Lady Eagles, who have four wins over nationally ranked squads and whose losses have all come to teams in the Top 10, are scheduled to compete at the Union University Invitational in Jackson, Tenn., this Friday and Saturday.
