MOBILE, Ala. -- The Reinhardt College softball team concluded play on Sunday at the University of Mobile Classic by splitting a pair of games. Reinhardt began the day with a 1-0 win over the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders before suffering a 2-0 loss to the William Carey University Crusaders, ranked No. 6 nationally in the NAIA.
Against Lindsey Wilson, the Lady Eagles scored the contest's only run on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Reinhardt finished with a 5-4 edge in hits but made four errors to the Blue Raiders' one. LWC left six runners on base and the Lady Eagles four.
At the plate for the winners, Cali Lovett went 2-for-2 while Bailey Arnaud was 1-for-2 with a walk. Andrea Thibaudeau doubled in three at-bats while Haley Williams ended 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Kelsey Floyd was Reinhardt's starting and winning pitcher. She tossed six innings, giving up two hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Becca Jones threw the final inning in posting a save.
In the Lady Eagles' loss, William Carey snapped a scoreless tie by pushing two runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Each squad collected four hits and there were seven errors in the game, including four by the Crusaders. Reinhardt stranded eight base runners and WCU five.
For the Lady Eagles, Lovett again was a perfect 2-for-2, this time with a sacrifice bunt, while Sarah Brown and freshman Kimber Beard added a hit apiece.
In the circle, freshman Maddie Monroe pitched all six innings for Reinhardt, allowing one earned run. Of the 18 outs Monroe recorded, 14 came on strikeouts and she did not issue a single walk.
The Lady Eagles are off to the best start in their six-year history at 15-3 overall while Lindsey Wilson is 6-4 and William Carey is 10-2. Reinhardt begins play on Friday at the Union University Invitational in Jackson, Tenn.
