MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. -- In a game that was close throughout, the No. 8-seed Reinhardt College women's basketball team battled the top-seeded and Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season co-champion Milligan College Lady Buffaloes on Wednesday night before bowing out with a 67-57 loss in the quarterfinal round of the AAC Tournament at Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
Reinhardt got out to a quick 7-2 lead but an 18-2 run put Milligan on top 20-9 with 11:36 left in the opening half. The Lady Eagles fought back and trailed just 32-31 at halftime before regaining the advantage, 35-33, with 15 minutes remaining. The lead went back and forth later in the half before Reinhardt was held scoreless over the final 3:40.
"I really expected a battle, and of course that is what we got," veteran Lady Buffaloes head coach Rich Aubrey said. "I thought they would play us tough. They are a real talented team and they definitely gave us a good fight."
Each team ended with just 21 field goals made, but the Lady Eagles attempted 58 (36.2 percent) and Milligan 51 (41.2 percent). From three-point territory, the hosts hit 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) and Reinhardt 5-of-12 (41.7 percent). The guests were outscored 21-10 at the free throw line after taking 13 attempts to the Lady Buffs' 29. The Lady Eagles outrebounded Milligan 34-32.
First Team All-AAC performer Kinsey Galyon paced Reinhardt with 17 points while Jemere McCurty scored 14. Jordan Marsh came up with nine points and six rebounds while Chase Morgan hauled down 10 boards off the bench. Monique Blanding chipped in with four steals.
The Lady Eagles conclude their 2009-10 season at 13-19 overall while the Lady Buffs move into the AAC Tournament semifinals with a 20-11 record.
