DAYTON, Tenn. -- On the road in the quarterfinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, the No. 6-seed Reinhardt College men's basketball team pulled out a 68-61 win over the third-seeded and AAC regular season co-champion Bryan College Lions on Wednesday night at Summers Gymnasium.
Reinhardt jumped out to a 20-9 advantage and led 35-29 at halftime. In the second half, Bryan went ahead 47-45 with 10:37 left but the Eagles stormed back to lead by 10 points (63-53) with 2:40 to go. The Lions got within two points in the final minute before Reinhardt sealed the victory by knocking down five free throws down the stretch. The Eagles drained 15-of-19 foul shots (78.9 percent) in the last 20 minutes with Bryan hitting just 5-of-10 (50.0 percent).
Each team made 22 field goals, but Reinhardt attempted 48 (45.8 percent) and the Lions 41 (53.7 percent). The Eagles finished 18-of-23 (78.3 percent) from the free throw line, compared to 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) for the hosts. Reinhardt's bench outscored Bryan's 37-7 and the Eagles had a 33-19 edge in rebounds. Each squad committed only 11 turnovers.
The winners were paced by Joseph Odugbela, who collected 19 points and five rebounds off the bench. Mario Mason ended with 11 points and four boards in a reserve role while Quinton Spivey tallied 10 points and four rebounds. Will Lewis added four assists and four boards.
Reinhardt improves to 17-11 overall while the Lions finish their season at 18-10. The Eagles advance to the quarterfinal round of the AAC Tournament, playing at the second-seeded and conference regular season co-champion Union College Bulldogs on Friday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. in Barbourville, Ky.
