ATLANTA -- In the first-ever game in the program's history, the Reinhardt College men's lacrosse team lost 22-4 on Thursday night at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which is ranked 10th nationally in this week's LaxPower Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division I poll.
Reinhardt fell behind 4-0 before Dustin Carnahan scored the Eagles' first goal. Reinhardt trailed 8-1 at the end of the first quarter and 12-1 at halftime. Georgia Tech extended its lead to 18-3 after three periods before outscoring its guests 4-1 in the final quarter.
"Reinhardt, playing in their first collegiate lacrosse game, played hard from the opening whistle and showed great effort all game long," Ken Lovic, in his 14th year as Tech's head coach, said.
Zack Muller recorded two goals for the Eagles while Stefen Raymond-Hussey tallied one.
Reinhardt, a Division II member of the MCLA and SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference, is 0-1 on the season while the Yellow Jackets, who are affiliated with Division I of the SELC, improve to 3-0. The Eagles play their first Central Division game on Sunday at the Furman University Paladins. The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Greenville, S.C.
