MONTREAT, N.C. -- In Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday, the Reinhardt College men's basketball squad came away with a 91-89 road victory over the Montreat College Cavaliers at McAlister Gymnasium.
Reinhardt, which received one vote in this week's NAIA Division II poll to rank tied for 36th nationally, was down 47-37 at halftime. Late in the game, the Eagles still trailed by six points but rallied from the deficit for their 13th win in their last 16 contests.
Reinhardt's bench outscored Montreat's 51-20. The Eagles outrebounded the Cavaliers by a 43-29 margin and each team committed 17 turnovers.
The winners were led by Carrlos Lyles, who scored a season-high 23 points off the bench. Joseph Odugbela, also in a reserve role, had 18 points and seven rebounds while Will Lewis ended with 15 points and six boards. Mario Mason collected 13 points while Torrio Cook contributed nine points, along with a season- and game-best eight rebounds as a reserve.
"Joe (Odugbela) made three great plays down the stretch, including two unbelievable defensive plays, to help us get the win," Reinhardt head coach Jeffrey Pourchier said. "Our bench played really well, and gave us a lift in the second half."
The Eagles improve to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the AAC while Montreat is 3-23 overall, including 1-12 in conference play. Reinhardt hosts the Virginia Intermont College Cobras in an AAC game on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the men's contest, the Virginia Intermont and Reinhardt women's teams play at 5:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
