MARIETTA, Ga. -- On the road in non-conference play on Tuesday night, the Reinhardt College women's basketball team fell 78-43 to the Southern Polytechnic State University Lady Hornets at the Hornets Nest.
Southern Poly scored the first seven points of the game and built a 25-point lead (37-12) before holding a 43-19 halftime advantage. In the second half, the Lady Hornets' biggest lead was 61-25 and Reinhardt got within 27 on two occasions, but could get no closer.
The hosts shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) from the field for the game, including a sizzling 9-of-15 (60.0 percent) from behind the three-point line, while the Lady Eagles made just 28.3 percent (15-of-53) from the floor and 3-of-10 (30.0 percent) from three-point territory. Reinhardt was guilty of 28 turnovers with Southern Poly collecting 15 steals. The Lady Hornets ended with a 33-30 edge in rebounds.
Kinsey Galyon had 12 points and five rebounds for the Lady Eagles while Jemere McCurty scored six points off the bench. Jordan Marsh added a game-high two blocked shots in a reserve role.
Reinhardt dips to 2-5 overall while Southern Poly improves to 7-0. The Lady Eagles will host the Berry College Lady Vikings in another non-conference clash this Saturday at 2 p.m. Following the women's contest, the Berry and Reinhardt men will play at 4 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
