WALESKA, Ga. -- In its 2009-10 home opener on Tuesday night, the Reinhardt College women's basketball team lost 63-50 to the Southern Polytechnic State University Lady Hornets in a non-conference game at the James & Sis Brown Athletic Center.
Reinhardt never led in the contest and fell behind by 10 points, 19-9, with 7:37 left in the first half. The Lady Eagles cut the lead to four points before trailing 27-22 at halftime. The hosts never got within that five-point margin in the second half as Southern Poly, affiliated with NAIA Division I, took its biggest advantage, 55-35, with 5:13 to go. Reinhardt, a first-year NAIA Division II member, made a late 14-5 run, getting within 11 points with less than two minutes remaining, but could get no closer.
The Lady Eagles shot just 28.6 percent (14-of-49) from the field for the game, compared to 33.8 percent (23-of-68) for the Lady Hornets. Reinhardt committed 25 turnovers and was outrebounded 49-39.
Freshman Brooke Satterfield came off the bench to lead the Lady Eagles with 11 points while Fabiola Toussaint scored nine in less than eight minutes as a reserve. Chase Morgan pulled down 11 rebounds in a reserve role while freshman Sarah Hewett dished out a game-high five assists.
Reinhardt dips to 1-2 overall while SPSU is 3-0. The Lady Eagles will be on the road this Thursday for a non-conference contest with the Truett-McConnell College Lady Bears. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Cleveland, Ga.
