WALESKA, Ga. -- The schedule has been set for the 2009 Appalachian Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship tournament, with matches starting late Tuesday afternoon at Meadowview Marriott in Kingsport, Tenn. The nine-team event is using a three-pool format with the fifth-seeded Reinhardt College Lady Eagles opening play in Pool B against the No. 8-seeded Virginia Intermont College Lady Cobras on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. In its second match of the tournament, Reinhardt will take on the second-seeded Bryan College Lady Lions on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Besides the Lady Eagles, Virginia Intermont and Bryan being a part of Pool B, the top-seeded Union College Lady Bulldogs, No. 6-seeded Bluefield College Lady Rams and ninth-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan College Lady Bulldogs make up Pool A. In Pool C are the No. 3-seeded Montreat College Lady Cavaliers, fourth-seeded Milligan College Lady Buffaloes and No. 7-seeded University of Virginia's College at Wise Highland Cavaliers.
After pool play concludes on Wednesday night, four teams advance to a single-elimination tournament beginning on Thursday morning. The winner of each pool will move on, along with Union, the No. 1 seed. If the Lady Bulldogs win their pool, then the second-place squads compete in a playoff for the fourth and final spot. The team that claims the tournament title earns an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship event.
Reinhardt finished the regular season at 11-18 overall and 9-7 in the AAC, tying for fourth place.
