BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- On a beautiful Saturday morning, the Reinhardt College men's and women's cross country teams concluded their 2009 seasons at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Montreat College. The meet was held on Montreat's Black Mountain campus.
In the men's 8K race, eight schools were represented with six fielding full teams. Reinhardt ended in sixth place with 156 points while Bryan College, ranked ninth nationally in the NAIA, claimed the AAC championship with 20 points. Chris Higgins was the Eagles' top finisher with a time of 31:05.14 for 33rd place among 57 runners while Cody Fulkerson had a time of 32:10.86 for 38th. Also participating for Reinhardt were freshman Leighton Steadman, Channing Hoyt, freshman Hunter Alexander and freshman Christian Abrams.
The Lady Eagles finished in sixth place in an eight-team women's field with 167 points while Milligan College, rated 20th nationally in the NAIA, captured the conference title with a score of 17. Kristie Spivey led Reinhardt with a 5K time of 24:01.31 for 25th place among 51 runners while Jessica Reagin was 37th at 26:47.79. Other Lady Eagles runners included Melissa Blumer, Thai Cromer and freshman Olivia Goodall.
