BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- On the road against the Union College Lady Bulldogs in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game, the Reinhardt College women's soccer team dropped a close 2-1 decision on Saturday afternoon at Burch/Nau Field, which features an artificial playing surface. Union, which has clinched the AAC regular season championship, received seven votes in the latest NAIA poll to rank tied for 38th nationally.
The Lady Bulldogs scored in the 36th minute and led 1-0 at halftime before Reinhardt benefited from an own goal, tying the match in the 62nd minute. The hosts tallied another goal in the 63rd minute and held on for the victory.
Union had a 17-12 advantage in shots, but just 9-8 on goal. Each team ended with seven saves.
In goal for the Lady Eagles, Chelsea Bettis started and played the first half, making four saves. Chesley Torrance saw action in the final 45 minutes and came up with three saves.
Reinhardt falls to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in AAC play while the Lady Bulldogs improve to 14-2-1 overall and finished a perfect 7-0 in the conference. The Lady Eagles will conclude its 2009 regular season by hosting an AAC game with the Covenant College Lady Scots on Tuesday. The Senior Day match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Jim & Syble Boring Sports Complex.
