DAYTON, Tenn. -- Under the lights on Wednesday night in an Appalachian Athletic Conference match, the Reinhardt College women's soccer squad got out to an early lead before falling 4-1 on the road to the Bryan College Lady Lions.
Just 11:50 into the game, Lindsey Taylor put Reinhardt on top 1-0 with a goal off an assist from Elizabeth Waite. The Lady Eagles held the lead for 20 minutes until Union tallied a goal at the 31:52 mark, tying the score. Less than three minutes later (34:23), the Lady Bulldogs scored, establishing a 2-1 halftime advantage. The hosts pulled away by tacking on second-half goals at 62:19 and 66:46.
Bryan finished with a 13-11 edge in shots, including 9-7 on goal. In the first half, the Lady Eagles outshot the hosts 7-4. Reinhardt ended with four corner kicks, compared to only one for the Lady Lions.
Chelsea Bettis played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Eagles. She was credited with five saves.
Reinhardt is 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the AAC while Bryan moves to 7-7-1 overall, including 4-2-1 in conference play. The Lady Eagles will play an AAC game at the Union College Lady Bulldogs in Barbourville, Ky., on Saturday. Union received seven votes in the latest NAIA poll to rank tied for 38th nationally. After the women's match, the Reinhardt and Union men's teams will square off in an AAC match at 4 p.m. as part of a doubleheader.
