ROME, Ga. -- At the Chick-fil-A Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, the Reinhardt College men's golf team concluded its 2009 fall season with a fifth-place finish among 17 teams behind Chris Cartwright, who ended as the tournament runner-up. Berry College hosted the event at the par-72, 6822-yard Coosa Country Club.
Reinhardt shot 291 and was in sixth place following Monday's opening round. A 289 on Tuesday gave the Eagles a 4-over-par 580 total, moving them up to fifth, just four shots behind tournament champion Lee University, which fired 288-288--576. Tying for second place at 577 were Thomas University (287-290), the University of the Cumberlands (281-296) and William Carey University (286-291). Two of the 12 squads finishing behind the Eagles were former Southern States Athletic Conference rivals Shorter College (seventh, 293-291--584) and host Berry (eighth, 294-296--590).
Cartwright was the only golfer in the 102-player field to break 70 each day. He shot a pair of 69s for a 6-under-par 138 total, good for second place, just a single stroke back of the tournament medalist. Reinhardt freshman Zach Lindsey, a medalist in the first three events of his collegiate career, produced rounds of 69 and 70 for 139, tying for third. Jason Mobley tied for 32nd with 75-74-149 while freshman Dan Merriman and Rudi Lee also participated for the Eagles.
Reinhardt is scheduled to begin its 2010 spring campaign in February.
